“BERLIN: “Poll: Over a Quarter of Germans Uninterested in Euro 2024″, Over a quarter of Germans have shown disinterest in Euro 2024, despite it being the largest sports event in almost two decades in the country, as per a poll conducted for public broadcaster ARD on Wednesday (Jun 5).”
The survey, conducted for ARD, reveals that despite the significance of Euro 2024, a notable portion of Germans are not engaged with the event.
With aspirations to reignite the fervor seen during the 2006 World Cup in Germany, known as ‘the summer fairy tale,’ organizers and the German national team are working to inspire a similar wave of enthusiasm among the population for Euro 2024.
With the tournament set to kick off on June 14 across 10 cities in Germany and culminate with the final in Berlin on July 14, efforts to generate enthusiasm for Euro 2024 are underway. However, a significant portion of Germans remain unconvinced, with 27% expressing no interest in the event so far.
Less than half of those questioned (43 per cent) said they are very interested in the event while 28 per cent are less interested, ARD said.Despite being three-time European champions and four-time winners of the World Cup, Germany has experienced a decline in international impact over the past decade. Their recent disappointments include crashing out in the group stage of consecutive World Cups in 2018 and 2022, highlighting a challenging period for German football.
There have been signs of improvement, however, under new coach Julian Nagelsmann who took over in October, with the team scoring two wins and a draw in their last three friendly internationals this year.
