PARIS: Italian Rower’s Father Bikes to Paris for Charity, Italian rower Luca Chiumento is gearing up for the quadruple sculls at the Olympic Games in Paris, while his father made a remarkable journey from Italy by bicycle, arriving on Thursday. His father’s journey is not only a personal feat but also a charitable endeavor, raising funds along the way.
A group of 23 cyclists began their journey, covering an average of 120 kilometers per day as they crossed the Alps, Austria, Switzerland, and France. After 12 days of pedaling, they arrived in the French capital, just in time for the Olympic Games’ opening ceremony scheduled for Friday.
“There were a lot of emotions. Everyone had their reasons for coming here. One of our members had a son who was admitted to the pediatric hospital.”
The charity “Citta della Speranza” (City of Hope) is a foundation from Padova, established 30 years ago. It has constructed and continues to support a pediatric hematology hospital in the Italian city.
Enzo was among the eight riders who successfully completed the journey to Paris.
Enzo reflected, “It was a great experience filled with friendship. We didn’t know each other before; it was organized spontaneously. Those who believed they could do it joined us.”
