India Achieves Record Coal Output: Surpasses 881 Million Tonnes in Apr-Feb

In a notable surge, India’s coal production witnessed a robust 12% increase, reaching 96.60 million tonnes in February compared to 86.38 million tonnes the previous year. This growth reflects a significant uptick in the country’s coal output, contributing to the overall energy landscape. The rise in production may be attributed to various factors such as increased demand, operational efficiency, or policy measures.

India produced 880.72 million tonne (MT) of coal in April-February this fiscal and is now just 119.28 MT away from its 1 billion tonne coal production target for FY24. During the 2022-23 fiscal year, India’s total coal output reached an impressive 893 million tonnes (MT). Looking ahead to the ongoing 2023-24 fiscal year, the government has set an ambitious target to further increase coal production, aiming to reach 1 billion tonnes (BT). This strategic goal underscores the nation’s commitment to meet growing energy demands and strengthen its position in the global coal market.
