BEIJING: “China Urges ICC Objectivity on Israel & Hamas Warrants”,China said on Tuesday (May 21) it hoped the International Criminal Court (ICC) would uphold an “objective” position after a prosecutor requested arrest warrants for leaders from Israel, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the militant movement Hamas.
Karim Khan, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), announced on Monday his application for arrest warrants pertaining to alleged war crimes committed by top
leaders from both Israel and the militant group Hamas during their conflict.
In response to inquiries about the ICC’s decision, Beijing emphasized the pressing need for immediate
cessation of hostilities in Gaza & resolution of the humanitarian crisis faced by the Palestinian people. This statement underscores China’s stance on the conflict and its call for international
solidarity in addressing the ongoing challenges in the region.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin expressed hope that the International Criminal Court
(ICC) would maintain its objective and impartial stance and exercise its authority in accordance with legal principles.
This statement reflects China’s expectation for the ICC to adhere to legal norms and ensure fair &
just proceedings regarding the requested arrest warrants for leaders from Israel and Hamas.
China has historically been sympathetic to the Palestinian cause and supportive of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
