“Newey Excited for Alonso, Regrets Missing Hamilton”

SILVERSTONE, England : Several teams had been chasing Newey since he decided to leave Red Bull, including Ferrari – the team seven-times world champion Hamilton is joining from Mercedes next year.

“I’ve always had a huge amount of respect for Fernando, and for Lewis,” the 65-year-old Briton told Reuters Television at Aston Martin’s Silverstone headquarters.

“It wasn’t possible to work with both of them, different teams, so I had to choose one.”

Newey, whose cars have so far won 25 drivers’ and constructors’ championships for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull, said Spain’s double world champion Alonso, a man he described as a former ‘arch-rival’, was a true great.

“Fernando, I think he’s just a mightily impressive driver and individual. Like me, he’s been in the sport for a long time now, but he still remains fully motivated, and he’s just such a character,” Newey said.

“One thing they all tend to have in common is a lot of mental reserve,” he explained.

“And by that I mean that when they’re driving the car, it feels like they’re only using 10 per cent of their brain to drive the car.

“The rest is going into thinking about what the car’s doing, what they need to do to change their driving style, to change the settings in the car, how the race is developing, where their rivals are, when to push the tyres, when to ease up on the tyres, all those things.

“They have that huge reserve, and that also typically makes them very good at describing what the car is doing.”

Newey left McLaren before Hamilton made his F1 debut in 2007 but the list of champions he has worked with includes Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

“Salesforce Expands Cloud to Israel”

TEL AVIV :”Salesforce Expands Cloud to Israel”, Cloud software firm Salesforce said on Tuesday its Hyperforce cloud platform was now available in Israel, which will allow sensitive government and companies’ data to stay local.

The platform, two years in the making, will initially run on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and possibly later on Google Cloud Platform, company officials said.

The cloud platform in Israel is the 17th globally for Salesforce. Until now, data from its thousands of companies in Israel were storing data at its Frankfurt facility.

“The Israeli government approved our Frankfurt data center, for government use,” Udi Shvekey, the lead architect for Hyperforce, said on the sidelines of a press conference in Tel Aviv.

Salesforce has also been heavily investing in artificial intelligence (AI) for months and integrating the technology into the workflows of its large suite of products to drive revenue and margins.

Margalit said its Israel R&D center was one of the three strategic sites for Salesforce along with the United States and India.

“Here we are doing a lot of development on the cutting edge technologies with AI,” he said.

“Americans Hit 100 Trillion Megabytes in Wireless Data”

“Americans Hit 100 Trillion Megabytes in Wireless Data”, Americans used just over 100 trillion megabytes of wireless data in 2023, up 36 per cent over the prior year in the largest single-year increase in wireless data consumption, according to an industry survey released on Tuesday.

The total number of wireless connections rose to 558 million last year, up 6 per cent over 2022, the survey found.

Demand for spectrum use is soaring, driven in part by more wireless use in advancements including drones, self-driving vehicles, space missions and precision agriculture.

The survey said the number of minutes Americans spent talking on the phone fell slightly from 2.5 trillion in 2022 to 2.4 trillion in 2023 and text messages were about the same at 2.1 trillion in 2023 over the prior year.

The rise in wireless comes amid a standoff in Congress over how to find new spectrum.

“There is no pipeline of spectrum for 5G,” said CTIA CEO Meredith Attwell Baker. The Biden administration announced steps in November 2023 aimed at freeing up additional wireless spectrum by repurposing spectrum currently set aside for parts of the federal government but has come under fire from Republicans for not moving fast enough.
